(New dawn magazine) The NASA Conspiracies is the first book of Nick Redfern’s that I’ve read – and I must say I wasn’t disappointed. A journalist, lecturer and prolific author, Redfern is an expert on the paranormal and the top secret.

So far he’s written over ten books dealing with such topics as the ‘Men in Black’, big foot and the Roswell UFO crash. Redfern is one of those rare authors who not only writes compellingly and convincingly, but is thorough with his research and balanced with his views.

Written in an intelligent and easy to read style, the book begins by explaining that, in 1958, at the height of the Cold War, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was established as part of America’s plans to gain dominance over the former Soviet Union in matters of space exploration – and, they feared, militarisation. (The ‘space race’, as it’s called.) NASA was needed to help guide the nation into the unexplored realm of outer space.

And, indeed, NASA’s accomplishments are difficult to ignore. The Apollo Moon landings, for example, were a remarkable feat of scientific and technological achievement. (Assuming they weren’t faked – a question Redfern explores in this book.) But of course, like any governmental organisation, there are two sides to NASA: one official and public; the other unofficial and secretive. Redfern’s book focuses on the latter.

Redfern demonstrates in a clear and logical manner that NASA’s involvement in high level cover-ups and conspiracies – related to UFOs, alien beings, crashed extraterrestrial spacecraft and the Face on Mars – runs deep.

Redfern explores some fascinating UFO cases, such as the possible crash of an alien spacecraft near the small town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, on December 9, 1965. Evidence suggests that the object – first seen as a glowing ball of fire – behaved as if under intelligent control, and was neither of Russian nor American origin (such as a satellite, for example).

When, in 1997, NASA files related to the Kecksburg crash were made available to the public, it become apparent that NASA knew far more about the incident than they were letting on. Due to their silence on the matter, however, whatever crashed in the woods near Kecksburg remains a mystery to this day.

boekRedfern provides evidence to suggest that there is a connection between NASA and the mysterious military installation in Nevada called Area 51 – where, it has been speculated, recovered extraterrestrial technology exists. In 2005, Redfern came in contact with a man named John, a former police officer, who claimed to have worked at Area 51 under the guidance of NASA personnel. During his employment, John was allegedly given access to top secret files related to UFOs and alien entities.

This chapter – ‘The Area 51 Connection’ – include information that hasn’t been reported elsewhere. Most of the book’s content, in fact, consists of original and exciting information gathered as a result of Redfern’s own, painstaking research. His gift as a researcher cannot be denied. Above all, though, I admire his ability to follow the evidence where it leads him, rather than shaping the evidence to fit his own views.

By tracing NASA’s involvement in all things dark and shadowy, Redfern explores some truly bizarre and compelling subjects, including the ‘goat sucking’ chupacabra ‘monster’, alien abduction and the issue of alien viruses. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on the stories of computer hackers (both past and present) who’ve accessed classified data on UFOs and advanced technologies, among them the persecuted Gary McKinnon.

I enjoyed this book to such an extent that I devoured it in two days. If, like me, you have an appetite for high quality books on conspiracies and unexplained phenomena, you’re sure to relish this one. Redfern has written a well-researched and riveting investigation into the secret and mysterious side of NASA.
