Movement Research Class - Random Collisions program of Season 2010/2011 is full of activities, presentations and a lot of fantastic artwork.
The association
Random Collision is an international choreographers collective based in Groningen, The Netherlands. The company was founded with the goal to promote and present promising artists in the field of choreography who are at the beginning of their careers.
Random Collision is an organization that focuses on contemporary dance and the development of talented young choreographers. The initiative of the company arises from the need for an environment for beginning choreographers where they are able to research, create and express their creative ideas. Random Collision provides a creative surrounding in which they are able to concentrate on their personal style of movement and focus on their own choreographies. Random Collision involves the choreographers in the production and promotion side of the business. Along these lines they discover their artistic niche in the field and learn how to organize their own projects for the future. In addition, the company stimulates and challenges the choreographers to collaborate with artists from different disciplines.
Random Collision stimulates the exchange between makers and public to expand the awareness of contemporary dance and to create a mutual understanding, which is an essential element in the development of the choreographers. The public is able to engage in the creative process via Studio Presentations and they can experience the dynamics of dance for themselves in classes and workshops.
Specialties
The Studio is the collision point of all Random Collision activities. All activities are open to public, no signing up or paying in advance is required.
The weekly Movement Research Classes are thought by professional guest teachers and the choreographers of Random Collision. Using improvisation and our natural way of moving, the aim is a personal experience where you develop awareness of your body, connecting your physicality with your mental and emotional state and your surroundings. The classes take place in an open space without mirrors, which allows for research and discovery of your bodies' limits in a private way. The classes are suitable for open minded people of all levels, with or without dance experience. You will be amazed at how much you did not know and how much you can discover.
On the last Friday of every two months Random Collision organizes a Studio Presentation. Fundamental to Random Collisions work method it gives choreographers and artists of all other disciplines the opportunity to show their work (in progress) and raise a discussion about it with an audience. It is meant to connect the public with the process of creation and artistic research and serve as a learning experience for both the viewer and the artist. For this season (2010/2011) Random Collision has started the new Trilogy Project in which three choreographers will get a six week residency period in the Studio. In this time they will create new work, the process of which will be shown during the Studio Presentations in January and March of 2011. In April the public will be able to see the final result in a full evening dance production in the Grand Theatre in Groningen and Korzo Theatre Den Haag.
Every first Friday of the month a cross-disciplinary Jam Session takes place. Being the one and only in Groningen and one of the few in the Netherlands, it is all about improvisation and inspiration. All dancers, musicians, dj's, vj's, professionals and amateurs, artists and art lovers are welcome to come inspire or be inspired, participate or just chill out and enjoy the atmosphere. You can come and go at any time; the evening starts at 21:00 with a short introductory contact improvisation class and runs through till 23.30.
Contributing to the cross-disciplinary environment of the Studio, three walls are reserved as a experimental space for visual arts. In a continuous exhibition, this Collision Wall gives established, aspiring and amateur visual artists a platform to communicate with and inspire Random Collisions public, choreographers and other visiting artists.

Ik heb geleerd dat moed niet de afwezigheid van angst is, maar het overwinnen ervan. Een dapper man is niet hij die geen angst voelt, maar die zijn angst weet te overwinnen.
